Bilingual English/Vietnamese Casework Specialist – Bridges for Newborns
Job Description:
The Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center is seeking a full time English/Vietnamese Casework Specialist. The Casework Specialist provides in-home parent education and community linkage.
Program Description:
The Bridges for Newborns Program aims to provide a smooth transition for newborns and their families from hospital to home by providing comprehensive in home parent education, ensuring families’ health and well-being, and providing linkages to community resources. Bridges for Newborns offers parents of newborns a temporary support system to help ease the adjustment following the birth of a new baby. Facilitating the transition from hospital to home is a primary focus, as is giving families the tools they need to ensure their child receives a healthy start in life. Funded by the Children and Families Commission (Proposition 10), this innovative program supports parents for up to two years, helping them acquire the additional skills needed to properly care for their baby. The Center's professional casework specialists provide personalized in-home assistance with basic infant care, child development, child safety, and access to resources.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Respond immediately to newly assigned cases to ensure agency connection.
- Conduct initial needs assessments.
- Develop service plans with clients.
- Develop relationships with families that build upon strengths and enhance self-sufficiency.
- Provide in-home visitations with a focus on parent education, problem solving, and case management.
- Coordinate with all agencies involved in cases.
- Transport families to resources when appropriate.
- Provide ongoing observation for elements of abuse within assigned families.
- Assist in public education activities (speaking presentations to organizations, preparation of news releases, etc.)
- Provide crisis counseling to clients on a 24 hour on-call basis when scheduled.
- Maintain cases in accordance with grant requirements.
- Comply with Mandated Reporter requirements
- Other special projects as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Participate in the planning of various events as needed.
- Attend all required meetings.
- Participate in weekly individual and team supervision.
- Maintain updated statistics monthly.
Skills / Knowledge Required:
- BA degree in a Human Services related field Preferred. Will consider candidates working towards BA degree and have experience working with children.
- Bilingual Vietnamese/English
