Suddenly Parents Program - Family Support Specialist


Job Description:

The Family Support Specialist provides in-home tutoring, homework assistance, transportation, and childcare in relative caregiver placements and foster placements referred by the Social Services Agency. Part-time and Full-time positions are available.

Primary Responsibilities:

Primary duties include providing tutoring to children 0-18 years old in relative caregiver placement who have been referred by Children & Family Services' Social Workers, providing transportation for children 0-18 years old, providing homework assistance to children 0-18 years old, providing childcare while the relative caregiver is present in the home for children 0-18 years old, responding immediately to newly assigned cases to assure Center connection, conducting initial visits with the relative caregiver to introduce services to the relative caregiver, providing on-going resources and referrals for clients as appropriate and providing follow-up on linkages, assisting social workers with on-going surveillance of children to assure safety and protection, providing weekly updates to the Children & Family Services' Social Worker, providing monthly reports to Children & Family Services, maintaining client files as required and completing required documentation, managing cases in accordance with grant requirements, participating in the Adopt-A-Social Worker program and maintaining regular contact with adopting or organization liaisons, complying with Mandated Reporter requirements.

Additional Responsibilities:

Secondary duties include: assisting in public education activities such as speaking presentations to organizations, client outreach, etc.), participating in the planning of various events, maintaining updated statistics monthly, attending all required meetings, and promoting public relations in the community.

Skills / Knowledge Required:

Must be working towards a BA degree in a Human Services related field and have experience working with children. Bilingual Spanish/English and Vietnamese/English are strongly encouraged to apply.
