The Child Abuse Prevention Center raised over $150,000 towards support of its critical early intervention programs during their Bright Futures Ball that was held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach. As part of the festivities, the Prevention Center presented its annual Champion of Children Award to Carole and Arte Moreno, owners of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and its Making a Difference Award to Siemens Building Technologies.

“The Child Abuse Prevention Center would not be able to accomplish its mission of advancing toward the elimination of child abuse without the help of generous donors like the Morenos, or corporate support such as that provided by Siemens,” commented Kathy McCarrell, Executive Director of the Prevention Center. “We are honored and grateful for their continuing support.”

Co-chaired by Corona Del Mar resident, Kerry Wurzelbacher, and Tustin resident, Sue O’Shea, this year’s whimsical Carnivale themed gala attracted more than 250 business and community leaders all interested in helping support the Prevention Center’s programs and eliminate current waiting lists. Guests enjoyed live and silent auctions, a gourmet dinner, entertainment and dancing. Special guests included Angel’s veteran ballplayer, Bobby Grich, accepting the Champion of Children Award on behalf of the Moreno’s, and Channel 2 News anchor Suzanne Rico.
