SANTA ANA, Calif. (Sept. 10, 2004) -- More than 130 golfers recently came together at the Mission Viejo Country Club for friendly competition in the name of child abuse prevention, raising $34,000 for the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center. Proceeds from the Prevention Center’s Third Annual Golf Classic, hosted on Aug. 23, 2004, will support six different early intervention programs that provide intensive, in-home parenting education and support for struggling Orange County families.
In addition to a round of championship golf, putting and Hole-in-One contests, lunch, and on-course refreshments, tournament participants enjoyed a post-game dinner and awards ceremony honoring the day’s top golfers. A threesome hosted by Wells Fargo took home the award for first place team low gross. Team members included: Nicholas Bock, Gary Boudreau and Lee Karen. The tournament also featured live and silent auctions offering items such as luxury weekend getaways, race car driving school, rounds of golf and autographed sports equipment.
“We had an incredible group of men and women who played not only because they love the game, but because they are committed to the future of our children,” said Kathy McCarrell, Executive Director of the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center. “Their support will allow us to reach more children and families than ever with the parenting education and resources they so desperately need.” Prevention Center Board president Ed Inal (Western Digital Corp.) and Board member Herb Reynolds (Commercial Capital Bank) co-chaired this year’s Charity Golf Classic. Wells Fargo Real Estate Group served as the event’s Gold Sponsor, with additional sponsorship support from Silver Sponsors Beech Street Corporation, Insuring The Children, Lavey Roofing Services, Solectron, and Western Digital Corporation; and Hole/Advertising Sponsors Commercial Capital Bank, First American Title Company, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP, Housing Capital Corporation, Jones Day, RE/MAX, Roger Dunn Golf Shops, and Washington Mutual.
Now celebrating its 20th year in operation, the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center (“ Prevention Center ”) is committed to breaking the generational cycle of child abuse, domestic violence and teen pregnancy in Orange County . The Prevention Center ’s six different early intervention programs have a well-documented record of strengthening and improving parent-child relationships, working to prevent abuse before it occurs. The Prevention Center has served more than 136,000 Orange County residents since opening its doors in 1984 – including 13,000 children and 5,500 families in the last year alone – and currently has waiting lists in all programs
