On June 20th, Dove Canyon Country Club provided a breathtaking background for the 3rd Annual Jessica Erstad “Not-So-Serious” Women’s Golf Outing, where players were lavished with gourmet food and goodies and the proceeds soared to over $70,000 to benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Center. Deloitte. and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were the main sponsors of the afternoon and encouraged their employees participation in the day’s festivities. “I have to give credit to all the ladies who made this year’s tournament the most successful to date in terms of raising money for the Prevention Center,” says Erstad, whose husband, Darin plays center field for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. “We had over 135 participants this year - who all braved the heat to play and show their support for this great cause – the prevention of child abuse.”
Erstad’s creativity and dedication to having fun shone as participants in the 9-hole, Hawaiian-themed scramble found quirky challenges at each hole. For example, at Hole 2 players had to tee off while standing on a boogie board. At Hole 4, balls had to pass through a pink Flamingo’s legs before hitting the hole. At Hole 5, everyone had to putt with a lifejacket around their neck, and at Hole 8, putting was only allowed with a swim fin. Upon arrival guests were given lime green Nike goodie-bags filled with golf paraphernalia and gourmet munchies. While awaiting tee-off, players enjoyed succulent prime rib sandwiches from Morton’s Steakhouse. At the end of the tournament, guests gathered back at the Dove Canyon clubhouse to enjoy a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by an awards dinner and live auction.
This year’s event will benefit a new, state-of-the-art expansion of the Prevention Center’s parent education programs. One such program is designed to help parent’s manage their child’s behavioral problems with the help of a family therapist who will coach parent’s interaction with their child through a wireless earpiece from behind a one-way mirror, providing specific and immediate suggestions to help the parents. The Child Abuse Prevention Center is committed to breaking the generational cycle of child abuse, domestic violence and teen pregnancy in Orange County. The Prevention Center’s early intervention programs have well-documented records of strengthening and improving parent-child relationships and working to prevent abuse before it occurs. Since 1984, the Prevention Center has served more than 150,000 Orange County residents – including 16,000 children and 5,000 families in the last year alone.
