The Wives of Professional Athletes, a support group of the Child Abuse Prevention Center, united with their husbands and other legendary athletes for the “Luck Be A Lady” Casino Night on January 12, 2007. The banner event attracted over 250 guests and raised over $40,000 for the Child Abuse Prevention Center’s in-home prevention programs. Jendy and Robb Nen, former San Francisco Giants closer, chaired the event and led the athlete involvement for the evening, which included J. S. Giguere, Teemu Selanne and Scott Niedermayer of the Anaheim Ducks, as well as baseball greats Mark McGwire, Mickey Hatcher, Darin Erstad, Adam Kennedy, Brett Tomko and many more! “It means a lot to us to be able to provide help for the children in our local communities. We’ve enjoyed working with the Child Abuse Prevention Center because we believe in breaking the generational cycle of abuse,” said event co-chair, Jendy Nen.
With the aid of main sponsors, the Anaheim Ducks and the Orange County based law firm, Shulman Hodges & Bastian LLP, the evening featured a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament and a Vegas-style gaming pit. The evening was highlighted by a large silent and live auction, where the signature item for the evening, an authentic Anaheim Ducks jersey autographed by the entire 2006-2007 team, was auctioned off for a whopping $1,500. “What a great evening for the kids! The Prevention Center is honored to have such great athletes generously join together in the fight against child abuse and know that their efforts will go directly toward helping our children and families,” commented Child Abuse Prevention Center’s Executive Director, Scott Trotter.
All proceeds raised will go to benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Center’s children and families. Since its inception, the Prevention Center has provided critical child abuse prevention and family support programs to over 165,000 at-risk children and families in need. Its prevention programs are designed to intervene early in the cycle of abuse, help family’s access critical healthcare services, and ensure that children are raised in a healthy, nurturing and safe home environment. Thank you to the following sponsors for making the night possible.
