Success Story

Amanda Long* was just 16 years-old when she gave birth to her son Mark. Becoming a parent is a monumental task for adults, but when you’re a teenager, it seems almost insurmountable. Amanda connected with our Welcome Baby program through her school and bonded with her caseworker. Over a three-month process, Amanda learned how to take proper care of her son, and built a healthy home with proper nutrition and finances. Together, Amanda and her caseworker were able to enroll Mark in her school’s daycare program.

Today, Amanda is finishing school and working part-time to help provide for her son. When her schedule permits, she is a panelist for the Prevention Center’s Teen Voices, Teen Choices program.

The services provided by the Child Abuse Prevention Center changed the lives of Amanda and her family, as well as the many other children, parents and families we help every day.

For as little as $25 a year, one dollar for every year we’ve been helping families in need, we can provide help to other families like Amanda’s.
