 Resource Connection Program
Empowering families to become self-sufficient
The Center's Family Pathfinders program assists families in need of material assistance. The program consists of three distinct branches:
- Family Pathfinders
Religious congregations, civic organizations and private businesses are matched with individual families transitioning off of public assistance to provide critical household items, life skills mentoring and job training. For six months, the organization meets with and supports a specific family, together working toward goals set early in the program. This helping hand is often all that is needed to assist struggling families in achieving self-sufficiency.
- Adopt-A-Social Worker
Religious congregations, civic organizations and private businesses are paired with a professional social worker from the Center to provide resources for the impoverished families served. The social worker maintains close communication with a liaison appointed by the organization to ensure that the needs of the families and the organization are met.
- Holiday Adopt-A-Family
During the holiday season, individuals, families and organizations are invited to participate in the Center's Adopt-A-Family event. Event participants donate gifts and holiday items to a specific family, whose needs are communicated through the Center's social workers. Donated gifts are collected and delivered by the Center to these children and families, who might otherwise go without.
The National Conference on Community and Justice recognizes the impact of this program, having awarded Family Pathfinders as "Humanitarian Program of the Year."
Last year, Family Pathfinders:
- paired 50 adopting organizations with individual social workers and families, providing donated goods and services to 4,966 individuals and 1,461 families.
- donated more than $260,000 worth of critically-needed household items to struggling families.
The most commonly needed items include diapers, clothing, linens, furniture and household appliances. For a complete listing of items, please view our Wish List.
