The Child Abuse Services Team (CAST) was formed in 1989 to reduce the trauma for child victims during the investigation of their abuse. Most of CAST’s clients are victims of sexual abuse, yet CAST also serves children who have observed serious crimes, such as domestic violence, homicide and kidnapping. Children are brought to CAST from all 23 law enforcement agencies in Orange County, for forensic interviews, medical exams, and/or crisis intervention therapy. Each year, 600-1000 children are served by the Child Abuse Services Team.
CAST is a multidisciplinary, public/private collaboration of social workers, medical doctors and a nurse practitioner, a deputy district attorney, a representative from Victim Witness, therapists, as well as volunteer child advocates from the Child Abuse Prevention Center.
The CAST Advocate staff is responsible for generating everything needed to care for children in the CAST playroom including toys, stuffed animals, snacks and lunches and other special items needed by the team.
When children visit CAST, the team presents them with a special lion named “Braveheart” to symbolize all of the feelings and thoughts they may be experiencing:
– Knowledge to help children understand what has happened to them.
– Courage to be able to tell someone about the experience.
– Heart to show them that someone respects, cares about, and loves them.
Thanks to private donations, CAST has been able to give lions and other stuffed animals to all of the victims and siblings seen at CAST.
We are deeply grateful for gifts of any amount and appreciate your generosity. To make a donation to CAST, call (714)935-7545, or click here to make an online contribution. Donations by check can be payable to OCCAPC/CAST, and mailed to 401 The City Drive South Bldg 46B, Orange, CA 92868, c/o CAST.
