FAMILIES HELPING FAMILIES 2018
Families Helping Families is a program of the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center. The Families Helping Families program connects families in challenging situations whose children may experience abuse and/or neglect with caring members of the community to help bring stability to the home for the holidays. Each year, community members come together and provide special items and support for 300 or more of our client families for the holidays. They donate children’s gifts and basic family needs items. The generosity of these donor “Santas” brings hope, support, and stability to families in need.
The program aims to 1) ease the burden of meeting basic needs so families can focus on breaking the cycle of abuse; 2) help those facing abuse to get on the road to healing, health, and hope, and 3) positively impact the lives of children in our community.
Generous donors assist families who have been identified by their caseworkers and exhibit their determination to overcome their challenges and maximize the progress made in their respective programs.
This year, the program format is being changed to maximize our available staffing resources and broaden the ability to serve more families. There are three ways to participate in this year’s Families Helping Families:
1. Donors can review the stories of one or more of the families we serve to get an idea of their unique needs. The donor then provides CAPC the resources to best assist the family by providing a small gift for the child or children in the family, along with a gift card usable at a grocery or general goods store (suggested value: $25 increments).
2. Small unwrapped toys can be dropped off at our offices at 2390 Orangewood Ave., Suite 300, in Anaheim and they will be taken out to the families by our staff who visit the families regularly. Volunteers are invited to a wrapping party to make the items special.
3. Donors can capitalize on the giving season by establishing a small individual fundraiser (click here to learn how easy it is) to reach out to your family, colleagues and friends who will support you in your dedication to be “Santa” for our families.
4. Donate your time! Volunteers can also support families in-need this season by volunteering at our Basic Needs Warehouse. Basic Needs provides critically-needed household items to Orange County families. For more information and to get involved please email [email protected]
Additionally, we are inviting our generous supporters to enable us to continue to serve families throughout the year by pledging a monthly amount to be posted to your credit card.
