Hey, everyone, it’s Athena Wong. I’m a Board member at the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center (let’s just call it the Center). I’ve also led the Families Helping Families Event for the last several years. I’m the one on the Razor Scooter zooming around the garage like a crazy person. Now you remember me!
In 2018, the Center is focused on securing long term funding so their incredible social workers can continue to deliver world class services to families in our communities throughout the year. We want keep the program staff at the Center focused on their programs and the development staff on identifying and engaging major donors. So this year, we will simplify Families Helping Families. Everyone may not know it, but this event does require a lot of effort from the staff behind the scenes.
This year, we want to give our social workers gift cards and small toys to share with the families they are serving during their regular home visits. This means we won’t have a North Pole this year or Reindeer volunteers to deliver gifts. This was a tough decision for us but it’s what we need to do this year to help the Center staff stay focused and still meet the needs of families over the holidays. The plan is to be back to Santas and Elves and Reindeer at the North Pole in 2019.
But we still need your help today for the simplified Families Helping Families!
You can donate gift cards or money earmarked for gift cards! Gift cards for Walmart, Target, and grocery stores are always in needed by our families. You can drop them off or mail to CAPC at 2390 Orangewood Ave, Suite 300, Anaheim, CA 92806.
You can donate small unwrapped toys from now to December 1 at our offices.
You can join our toy wrapping party on December 15th from 3PM to 7pm (we’ll feed you!) at our office! Just bring at least 4 rolls of wrapping paper with you!
Let’s pull together and still make this a good Christmas and Holiday season for our families!
And if you have connections to foundations, grants, and major donors, please send us the information at [email protected] so we can secure the long term funding that will give us the breathing room to put on the absolutely awesome future Families Helping Families Events that serve our families and bring a community of generous volunteers together.
Thank You So Much for Your Support of CAPC’s families!
